Simon Green - Mk3 Ford Fiesta 1600 Zetec
This is Simon Green’s own ex-Ford Saloon Car Championship Mk3 Ford Fiesta that he brought back in 2005. He raced the
following year in Class C of the Ford Saloon Car Championship and even though he suffered from a lack of power from
the original Ford 1600 CVH he still managed to finish 2nd in his debut year of car racing and narrowly missed out
on winning his class race in his first ever race at Mallory Park!! The car was then going to undergo a major
rebuild for the 2007 season however his decision to return to a previous job meant his rebuild plans and race
plans had to be put on hold as it was impossible to commit the time to the Fiesta. The rebuild has now continued
at pace and now with the car ready for painting and Simon is slowly getting all the parts ready for when it is all
painted. Once the car has been finished this car will be available for hire, please contact Simon to discuss prices
and your requirements.
The car specs are planned to be:
-
Chassis: 1990 Mk3 Ford Fiesta shell, fully seam welded, with a 6 point FIA bolt in roll cage with front triangulation and extra door bars. Fully adjustable Olins 3-way race suspension and up-rated suspension bushes throughout.
-
Engine: Ford 1600 16v Zetec engine with ported head, up-rated valve springs, 11.5:1 compression ratio, Dellorto twin 45 carburettors, Dunnell Race Engines ignition system and ‘Haywood and Scott’ one off custom exhaust system.
-

John Wilson’s Royale RP26 and Derek Watling’s Royale RP27 Formula Ford 2000
Through Simon’s involvement and preparation of John Wilson’s Van Diemen RF82 he was asked to help with
the rebuild of not only John’s Royale RP26 but also Derek Watlings RP27. Although his original reason
for involvement had only been to make the wiring looms for both cars, which included wiring up a full
PI research system on John’s car, it soon became apparent to both John and Derek that Simon was able to
offer more than just doing the electrics and the three worked hard to get both cars finished and ready
for the first race HSCC Historic FF2000 Championship at Donnington on the 5th April 2009. The deadline
was met and with both cars having been fully setup but Simon both drivers where extremely happy with
the handling of their cars.

-
Chassis: Royale RP26 (John) & RP27 (Derek) Chassis – built 1978 & 1979.
-

twin choke Weber Carburettor with Ford Motorcraft ignition system with the only modifications being the addition or a full dry sump oil
system and customer exhaust system using a Ford Motorsport spec silencer.
-
Brakes: Bias pedal box with hydraulic clutch. Lockheed twin piston callipers all round with Mintex pads and 255mm brake disc.
-
Transmission: Hewland Mk.9 4 speed gearbox with open diff, Standard Ford ‘Motorcraft’ clutch with hydraulic clutch system.
